DESCRIPTION
  • Thin soil cover, less than 6"  
  • Little or no irrigation
  • Plants are herbs, sedum, moss, wild flowers, and grasses
  • Plants less than 24" tall

ADVANTAGES
  • Lightweight
  • Suitable for large areas
  • Suitable for roofs with 0°-30° slopes
  • Low Maintenance
  • Often suitable for retrofit projects

  • Usually no access for recreation of other uses

  • Shallowness of soil requires low, hardy plant choice (Typically alpine or desert-type plants)
  • Plants watered and fertilized only until they are established
  • After the first year, maintenance consists of two to three visits per year for weeding, trimming, and general inspection
